The main types of casino bonus

Welcome or match bonus. The casino matches a percentage of your first deposit, usually 100 percent, up to a maximum. Some welcome packages spread the offer over two to four deposits. This is the most common bonus and the one with the most complicated terms.

Free spins. A set number of spins on a named slot at a fixed stake, often €0.10 per spin. Winnings from the spins are usually paid as bonus money with their own wagering requirement. The free spins page shows how to calculate what they are worth.

Cashback. A percentage of net losses over a period, typically 5 to 15 percent, returned as cash or as bonus funds. Cashback paid as real money with no wagering is the most straightforward bonus a casino offers.

No-deposit bonus. A small amount, often €5 to €10 or 20 to 50 spins, given for registering. These come with the highest wagering and the lowest win caps. See the no-deposit page for realistic expectations.

Reload bonuses. Smaller match bonuses on later deposits, often tied to a day of the week. Same mechanics as a welcome bonus, usually with a lower maximum.

How wagering requirements work: a worked example

Wagering, sometimes called playthrough or rollover, is the amount you must bet before bonus funds become withdrawable. The number is expressed as a multiple.

Suppose you deposit €100 and receive a 100 percent match bonus of €100 with a 35x wagering requirement on the bonus.

• Required bets: 35 × €100 = €3,500
• Playing slots at €1 per spin, that is 3,500 spins.
• With a slot returning 96 percent, the expected loss over €3,500 of bets is 4 percent, or €140.

So on average you would lose the €100 bonus and €40 of your own money before the requirement is met. That is the expected outcome; individual results vary widely, and a large win early on can leave you well ahead.

Now suppose the same casino applies 35x to deposit plus bonus:

• Required bets: 35 × (€100 + €100) = €7,000
• Expected loss at 4 percent: €280

The bonus is now worth less than nothing on average. This single detail, whether wagering applies to the bonus or to deposit plus bonus, is the most important line in any bonus terms.

Game contributions change the sum

Not every bet counts fully towards wagering. A typical contribution table:

If you play blackjack at 10 percent contribution, a €3,500 requirement effectively becomes €35,000 in bets. Bonuses are designed for slot players; for table games they rarely make sense.

Terms to check before you accept

• Wagering multiple and what it applies to. 30x to 40x on the bonus alone is standard. Above 45x, or any multiple applied to deposit plus bonus, is poor.
• Maximum bet while wagering. Usually €5 per spin or per hand. Exceeding it, even by accident, can void the bonus and winnings.
• Maximum win or cashout. Some bonuses cap withdrawable winnings at a multiple of the bonus, such as 10x. A €100 bonus with a 10x cap can never pay more than €1,000.
• Expiry. Seven days is short for a large bonus. Thirty days is reasonable.
• Excluded games. Certain slots with high RTP or bonus-buy features are often excluded. Playing them with an active bonus can void it.
• Minimum deposit to qualify. Often €20; sometimes higher for the full bonus.
• Payment method exclusions. Deposits by Skrill or Neteller are frequently ineligible for welcome bonuses.
• Withdrawal before wagering. Check whether you can withdraw your own deposit without penalty if you change your mind.

How we rate bonuses

We score each bonus on the value it leaves in the player's hands after the terms are applied, not on the headline amount. The main inputs are:

1. Wagering multiple and base (bonus, or deposit plus bonus).
2. Maximum bet and win cap.
3. Game contributions, especially whether live and table games count.
4. Expiry period.
5. Whether the terms are written clearly and match what the promotion page says.

A bonus that scores well on all five is marked as fair in the table. A bonus with any of the following is marked as poor regardless of size: wagering on deposit plus bonus above 30x, a win cap below 5x the bonus, or an expiry under seven days.

Bonuses and Icelandic players

Casinos rarely have Iceland-specific bonuses; the offer is the same as for other European countries and is denominated in euros. Two points are worth noting. First, bonus amounts stated in euros are matched against the euro value of your deposit after your bank's conversion from króna, so a deposit of 15,000 kr. may land slightly under or over the qualifying threshold. When to skip the bonus

Decline the bonus if you mainly play blackjack, roulette or live games, if you want to be able to withdraw at short notice, or if you intend to deposit less than the bonus minimum. A €20 deposit with a €20 bonus at 40x is €800 in required bets for very little upside. Playing without a bonus removes every restriction in the list above.
